Oisins retain Lancashire title

3/10/2008

GAELIC FOOTBALL: Oisins retained their Under-10s Lancashire League title against St Lawrence’s at Old Bedians last Saturday.

Oisins, who won the match 3-1 (10 points) to 2-3 (nine points), took control of the first half with captain Rory McCormack, from Hale Barns, and Declan Mallon playing well in defence.

Michael Rodden opened Oisins’ scoring with a well-taken goal after two minutes and McCormack completed the first half with a 30-yard injury time goal to put Oisins 2-0 to 0-0 at half-time.

In the second half, St Lawrence’s got back into the game with a well-taken goal and point by Sheamus Murphy.

But, on the break, Luke Roache scored a goal for Oisins and Niall Brodrick slotted over a point, giving Oisins a healthy lead.

St Lawrence’s came back strongly with two minutes remaining with a goal and two further points.

In injury time Murphy could have taken the game into extra-time, but his effort went wide of the post.

Oisins goalkeeper Collett Mitchell took the kick out and referee John Fitzpatrick blew for full-time.
