Green day at Cavendish

HEAVY rain in the new Manchester Alliance winter season at Cavendish meant several groups failed to complete the round.

Others braved the bad weather including Dukinfield’s David Green, who was the top individual pro with 33 points.

Bramhall duo Richard Green and his amateur Peter Myers posted a winning 39 points.

In the am-am section three pairs were locked on 40 points. The nod went to Leigh’s S Dagger and P Dermott from Blackley stars Julian Robinson and Alan Lane and home pair N Boulton and A Carruthers.

Dunham Forest’s Cath Barker and Joy Blakey finished second in the Cheshire Ladies Golf Association’s Doris Chambers Cup.

In the CLGA Foursomes Stableford Sale’s Hilary Tarleton and Cath Rawthore were the winners with 35 points.

Ashton-on-Mersey’s men played for the Lady Captain’s Prize and it was taken by Neale Davies on 68, a shot clear of Wayne Emmerson and Simon Priest.

Mersey ladies played for the Past Captain’s Rosebowl, which was taken by S Milligan (28) by a point from R Hartley and M Gregson.

In the Mersey Lady Captain’s Souvenir competition, J Young won a card play-off on 73 from G Johnston.

A Greensome medal for Sale ladies had Sada Kilby and Carolyn Stockwell in top spot on 67, a shot clear of Jane Ashcroft and Moira Forster.

There will be a large number of local professionals and some top amateurs competing in this year’s MEN Manchester Open at Marriott Worsley Park on October 7 and 8.

As well as the main title the North Region PGA Order of Merit will be decided and the top three players qualify for the Srixon PGA play-offs at Royal Liverpool where they will compete for places in some of the European Tour events.

There is no charge for admission to the event. Also there are a few places left for teams in the pro-am on October 6.

Sale’s Steve Price was in the prizes in the Sale Captain’s Prize final. He had the top gross 36-hole score of 146 to finish three shots clear of Mo Rawthore.

The winner of John Stubbs’ main prize was Brian Ledsham with 136 from Mike Ford (137).

First round winners were Colin Shaw (66 nett) and John Russell (75 gross).

In round two Stephen Rourke won the nett with 64 and Kevin Moore had the top gross of 74.

Sale ladies played for the Margaret Smith Challenge Cup and the Lady President’s Day Prize and Hilary Tarleton won the 36-hole competition on +4.

Dorothy Anderson won the 18-hole competition on +2.

Flixton have home advantage in the SuperLux Windows Men’s Foursomes against Lymm with the winners going through to the final at Bolton Old Links on October 19.

Oliver Pantoja is the new club champion at Ashton-on-Mersey with 147, well clear of Oliver Smith 153 and Peter Hamlett 155.
