Lacrosse stars looking to make progress
11/ 7/2008
There is a big contingent of local lacrosse stars enjoying the U19 World Championships in Canada during this week.
They will be taking on the best of Japan, Canada, Australia and the Iroquois in the Blue Group and looking to make progress into the knock out stages of the tournament, which will feature 44 games.
Greg Caplin, the chair of the England Men’s National Squads said: "In the last two championships the team has done well to finish fourth with the last one being in Baltimore in 2003.
"Since then Under-19 lacrosse has gone from strength to strength in England with the result that members of the 2008 squad are all experienced players who have been well coached and managed by an enthusiastic and committed staff team.
"I am sure that some of this team will go on to play for England when the senior World Championships are held in Manchester in 2010."
In the squad are Mike Armstrong and Max Sandy (Timperley), Chris Summers and Josh Sherry-Brennan (Brooklands Hulmeians) with Georgina Davies of Timperley as the team physiotherapist.
