THE final trophy of the Lancashire and Cheshire League’s 2008/09 centenary season was decided at Bedians FC.
More than 100 players aged 35 and over competed in the annual Vets tournament with 67-year-old Mal Maginn the eldest in action.
He helped Burnage Metro into the final four where they were beaten 1-0 by the host club, while Old Stretfordians prevailed 3-1 against Stoconians.
However, the final went Bedians’ way as their side – comprising the bulk of their title-winning third XI – won 2-1.
League chairman Keith Marsden said: "This was a great day of soccer enjoyed by players and spectators and reflects the range of footballing age and ability we have in the league throughout our eight divisions."
