Garden duo are all smiles

TWO Sale gardeners are getting anything but serious with their plan to bring plenty of cheer to one of Britain’s best-known flower shows.

Paul Morris and Mike Hall have been working flat-out all week at Tatton Park to make sure their display is positively brimming with colour in time for the RHS Flower Show.

The owners of Stanley Mount-based Morris & Ball landscapers are no strangers to the event but decided to do something a bit different this year.

Paul explained: "Our garden is going to have a bright, happy theme – it’s called A Modern Space to Put a Smile on Your Face.

"We’re using bright, colourful boulders and wooden screens, a waterfall and plenty of beautiful flowers and plants, including festuca grasses which have a wonderful zebra print effect.

"We’ve entered the show for two years but a lot of our themes are quite serious.

"This year we said: ‘let’s have a bit of fun, let’s make people smile.’"

Now in its 10th year, the show gets underway next Wednesday, running for five days, and will feature installations from top gardeners across the north west.

The striking displays are expected to feature everything from copper dragons to Chinese plants.

Visitors can also enjoy various creative workshops, featuring demonstrations on topics ranging from basket making to thatching.

Despite tough competition from about 50 other entries, Paul hopes their smile-inducing display will be one of the most eye-catching because it appeals to the child in all of us.

"We wanted to create a something wonderful, that families would love," he said.

"I think all the kids would definitely come along to have a look, they’ll love it more than anyone."

The RHS Tatton Flower Show runs from July 23 to 27.
