Club in closure threat

A SALE nightclub has been warned it faces closure if it opens its youth disco again.

Police had drawn up a closure order to serve on Alibi if it opened its doors to under-18s on Friday night, it has been revealed.

They issued this strong message in the wake of several complaints by residents, who said youths gathering to attend the night the previous Friday were drunk and out of control.

Later that night, a 14-year-old girl was found collapsed in the street as a result of drinking too much and a boy was arrested for a breach of the peace.

Sale Inspector Brendan O'Brien said: "We had three incidents of anti-social behaviour reported from across Sale last Friday night, compared to six reported from just the town centre the previous week.

"We told Alibi that we would apply for a closure order if it opened its youth night again and fortunately it didn't. We even had the documents ready on Friday night.

"I have to say that I don't object to young people attending licenced premises like the Waterside as it provides activities that are supported by the young person's service. But licenced premises on the whole and young people do not mix."

Alibi was unavailable for comment.
