Borough set for Scottish invasion

AS MANCHESTER gears up for the UEFA Cup Final this Wednesday, Trafford is also preparing for an increased number of visitors.

Hundreds of coaches carrying approximately 20,000 Rangers fans will be arriving in Stretford to park on land off Elsinore Road.

Supporters will then be travelling to and from the match via additional Metrolink services or a special shuttle bus.

John Reilly, executive Councillor for community safety, culture and sport, said: "We are expecting a degree of disruption on local transport networks due to the large amount of people using public transport and roads into to the city centre.

"We are not expecting any local disorder from the fans however, policing and community safety patrols at the Old Trafford Metrolink station and the surrounding area will be stepped up, portable toilets will be put into place and litter issues managed on local routes to ensure the fans cause as little disruption as possible for local residents and commuters.

"Trafford has a lot of experience of managing large numbers of sports fans successfully and this event is no exception.

"Trafford Council and the police would like to thank local residents in advance for their cooperation during this event."

   Dear sir I have not seen devastation on this level since the Manchester bomb blast and the lack of your coverage after this monumental Council blunder relaxing local bylaws just goes to show what is going on behind our backs between council and media.
