Wood you like to 'meet' a wizard

VISITORS to a Sale park had a magical time this week.
That’s because artist Tim Burgess has been carving a wood statue of a wizard Worthington Park.
From Tuesday to Thursday the skilled chainsaw carver took up residence in the park to carve a figure of a wizard holding an owl from the remains of a tree which was badly damaged in the storms.
He was in the park, just opposite the bandstand, all day for three days for the event, which was set up by the Friends of Worthington Park Group.
Tim, who lives in Cheshire, is one of about 30 chainsaw carvers in the UK, and later this year he will be appearing at Wales Woodfest, at the end of May, and Tatton Park Country Show in August.
Fascinated local people went down to watch him working, and Tim explained to them what he was doing as he slowly turned an old tree stump into something altogether more magical.
