A 17-YEAR-old boy has been stabbed on his way home from the shops in Timperley.

The teenager had been walking along Aimson Road West when a man armed with a kitchen knife ran up behind him.

He stabbed the boy, causing a small cut to his stomach, and then ran off.

The knifeman is described as white, in his early 20s, around 6ft 2ins tall and of stocky build.  He had bushy eyebrows and the lower half of his face was covered with black material. He wore a black hooded top and dark trousers.

Detective constable Rob Tothill of Stretford CID described Friday afternoon's attack, which happened at about 1pm as 'completely unprovoked'.

"The victim was simply walking back from the shops when he was stabbed for no reason," he said. "The person who committed this offence needs to be caught and brought to justice for his actions.

"If anyone saw this happen or knows anything more about the offender please get in touch."

Witnesses are asked to call Stretford CID on 0161 856 7692 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
