Grieving parents' hit-run plea
Nicola Dowling14/ 4/2008
THE DEVASTATED mother of a man killed by a hit-and-run driver has told how she cannot stop thinking about the moment he suffered the horrific head injuries which ended his life.
John Ryan's body was found at the side of the road in Kingsway, Stretford in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Ace, it is you who displays PC attitudes. You continually make excuses for criminals, by claiming that criminal behaviour is perfectly natural and crime is all society's fault for not controlling them.
That fact that you would rather spend money on nanny-statist databases rather than having police on the street shows how absurd your mentality is.
The person displaying the attitudes that you claim to dislike...is you!

So, Ace, are you seriously still claiming that the money that would be spent creating this database would not be better spent putting police on the street?

We Always seem to find millions to send to africa to educate others,or send aid to other nations etc.So lets get the priorities right (solve our own problems first). We are great in britain at finding money to send to others while our soldiers etc go without.so finding the money for this data base should present no problem.

Ace, most of your argument is your usual swiss cheese nonsense, but that aside, how do you propose to pay for this mammoth database.
Last week, when I suggested imprisoning criminals, you criticised my idea because it would require finding more money to administer prisons. So, how do you propose finding this money? Do you honestly believe that the money needed to finance your crackpot idea would not be better spent on putting police on the street?
Or are you offering to give up your benefits to pay for it?

There is no reason why police should not take your finger prints when spot checked to see if youve been stopped before with different details,i know a few people who insure their cars with brother/sisters details, and have done for years but nothing ever happens to them until they have a accident like this poor lad, that is when they run away and its difficult for the police to find them. Its time for zero tollerence even if people like you dont want it..ITS TOUGH LUCK we need it and we need it now,Hit and run is becomming all to common on our roads and if finger printing and spot checks stops just one person loosing their life im all for it..so its like your wearing of helmet argument its not worth anything.we need stronger laws and enforcement...

Ace, your argument is weak. Some other agencies use fingerprints, but their is no universal driver fingerprint database (thankfully) and one would have to be created at great cost in order to satisfy your nanny-statist dream.
As for the "i know people who use their brithers or sisters licences to drive because they look similar" comment, twins aside, I think, with a little close inspection, it is perfectly possible to tell two people apart. Building a huge, invasive database at great cost to allow for a very limited number of cases is both excessive and a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere (such as actually getting police on the street, dealing with crime, rather than having people wasting time in offices administering your madcap schemes.)
As for the usual tedious "I've got nothing to hide" comment, do you not realise that "if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear," was Nicolae Ceausescu's motto. Personally, if I'm looking for political advice, I don't look towards a totalitarian dictator.

Other agencies in britain use a fingerprint data base (like the immigration and CRO) And i know people who use their brithers or sisters licences to drive because they look similar so your idea of,we have enough evidence dosnt wash ..These drivers who drive without the relevent documents ,do hit and run in most cases.so now we need a Zero tollerance and a spot check system where the police can verify the person stopped is the person on the licence..I dont mind being stopped and my fingerprints taken "ive got nothing to hide" And if it takes these drivers off our roads its got my vote....

John definitely was the life and soul of the party. He will be sadly missed in Manchester and in Ireland. All our thoughts are with Ann, Steve and Stephen at this sad time. x

Ace, fingerprint recognition isn't as infallible as you seem to think. It would also be completely unnecessary in the situation you are describing. Anybody who applies for a driving licence has to supply a photograph, so the DVLA database already holds sufficient information to identify a driver.
If photographic evidence is available to verify the identity of a driver, how do you justify taking the unnecessary and costly step of creating a creepy fingerprint database?

Condolances to his family and friends,We need to stamp out these hit and run drivers and take the driving laws more serious.Rather than just a money making machine,we need stop and checks across the city at varying times and also finger print recognition software in police cars to check the details are the drivers they are who they say they are.Im sick and tired of reading about these poor innocent people in these "Hit and Run" cases,Time for a real clampdown on drivers who are on the road ,who shouldnt be.......ZERO TOLLERANCE LIKE .
