Shameful cuts target the most vulnerable
10/11/2005
THE decision to close Northlea Day Care Centre in Sale Moor and
Altrincham's Pownall Road Centre (Metro News, October 28) is yet
another instance of the Tory council riding roughshod over the
wishes of some of the moist vulnerable people in the borough.
Do councillors Ogden, Merrell and Bailey not agree that service
users and their carers have said very clearly that they are more
than happy with the current service provision at Northlea and do no
want the changes that are being imposed on them?
Carers will no longer benefit from the brief respite the centres
offer them at present and for man service users it will mean being
trapped within their own four walls.
The happy and beneficial relationships built up between staff and
service users will be gone.
I have heard of nothing even "in the pipeline" to replace these
centres which means that it is cutting for cutting's sake. It
obviously doesn't matter where the Tory axe falls, just so long as
it does fall, preferably on a group unable to fight back too
hard.
