Sell-off objectors put up good case

I WOULD like to comment on Katherine Vine’s report (14/11/08) about the piece of land that the council wants to sell off to bulldoze into a car park.

I was one of the objectors who attended a meeting at Altrincham Town Hall along with my wife, Hilary.

Although the meeting was supposed to be open to the public, it was not advertised as such, so there were not many objectors there.

And why is it that the three Altrincham councillors were not at the meeting?

I was glad the objectors at the meeting put up a very good case.

There were also two Labour representatives present who said the council was completely out of order in the way it was conducting the sale and should hold a fuller meeting.

I would like to say thank you to them for trying to save this land.

Although the meeting lasted two hours, it took three committee members less than 10 minutes to make their decision.

Ten minutes and Altrincham lost a historic piece of land for the sake of an ugly car park.

The council should be ashamed of itself.
