Flowers not adverts on our roundabouts

I AM angry and dismayed by Trafford Council’s decision to place advertising amongst what was a pleasant and attractive grassed area containing flower beds and shrubs at the corner of Washway Road and Eastway, Sale.

These signs are an offensive eyesore. We have read in recent weeks that the council could not afford to plant up the roundabout at Maplas Drive, Timperley.

Now here they are allowing an area that was cared for and appreciated to be vandalised with their blessing.

I have also see Brooklands roundabout has been marred with an advertising sign.

It used to be a treat to see the daffodils in bloom there in spring but that pleasure has now been devalued. No doubt these signs will spread like a plague to other locations.

It is the thin end of the wedge and it won’t be long before Trafford Council is cashing in on more of our green and pleasant open spaces around the borough.

I would urge other like-minded people to support my demand that these signs be removed from these inappropriate locations and that this policy be scrapped.

If we are so desperate for this advertising revenue then at least choose locations that haven’t been beautified to improve our quality of life and to make Trafford a more attractive place to live.
