Outraged at Urdu lessons

31/10/2008

WITH serious knife, gun and general crime on the up and up and police resources seemingly stretched to the limit, I find the news that officers are being diverted from their duties to learn Urdu totally outrageous.

Surely it is the responsibility of the Asian community to learn English and integrate with the host population, not the other way around?

If an individual officer feels the need to learn any language then he or she should do so in their own time and at their own expense.

Will Chief Superintendent McCormick assure Trafford residents that the policing of our streets during the Urdu lessons next January will not suffer as a consequence and that the long-suffering council tax payer will not be asked to help finance this farce? Unbelievable.

Mr S Cooke, Navigation Road, Broadheath
