Story didn't reflect all veterans

4/ 7/2008

I HAVE read your coverage of the Veterans’ Day coffee morning arranged by Beverley Hughes.

I wrote to Ms Hughes prior to the event and after. I was so dismayed that it did not in any way reflect the modern soldier.

In a token way we were invited, but in another way alienated by the event.

It was not just Ms Hughes’ actions but your own reporting. Where was the recognition that there were no young veterans of modern conflict?

If a minister and the media do not acknowledge the part played by the modern soldier it is a sad reflection of our society.

It is a shame on the minister and your paper that they were not fully recognised.

The minister feels that her tea mornings will be an annual event. It was an insult to a modern soldier and an event that must change and not hide from the wars that we now fight.
