Cap the pay of NHS managers
13/ 6/2008
REGARDING the story ‘Despair of NHS Staff’ (Metro News, June 6), having been both a patient and worked in the NHS, and having followed the parliamentary debates, experience is the essential ingredient in order to form positive judgements.
The government continues to appoint non-elected executives who do not necessarily live in Trafford. There is no need to send us persons from universities – we abound with local talent.
Persons in the Primary Care Trusts should not be part timers, but full time executives who receive a salary before tax of £30,000 per year. Those seeking higher wages as public servants should seek another class of work.
Ward managers should regularly submit reports to the PCT about their staff. Trade union organisers represent the interests of their members, but when the PCT differs from the officials of the trade union the problem should be resolved by ACAS.
GPs are presently not informed immediately about what is going on in the NHS.
Some staff start work at 7.30pm and finish at 9am. These excessive hours have nothing to do with patient care, but rather the poor rates of pay.
Fay Selvan, the chair of Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust, says she has confidence in the Trust’s future. Too many question such confidence.
