Diversion does beggar belief

13/ 6/2008

IS THERE no one in Trafford Borough Council with an active brain cell?

Not content with destroying Urmston centre with inept management of the redevelopment, it is about to do the same to the residential areas. The closure of Crofts Bank Road (the timing of which beggars belief) demanded a diversion.

So what does it do? It sends all the traffic up Railway Road – a road that is narrow, contains chicanes, speed bumps and low-hanging branches along its length, as well as parked cars further reducing the width of the road. To see 40-tonne lorries and building site vehicles negotiating this obstacle course is a farce. Not to use Higher Road, which was actually improved to carry through traffic, is sheer incompetence.

Is it beyond the wit of officials to get off their backsides and actually look at what they intend to do rather than just drawing a line on a map?
