Attitude to issue was shocking

30/ 5/2008

AS A resident of Cromwell Road, which is used as a short-cut through to King’s Road towards Old Trafford, I was shocked at Trafford Council’s attitude to the problem we and Norwood Road residents face.

Not only do certain drivers have no consideration at how fast they drive in an area with plenty of children, especially due to the park, but we also regularly wake up to find that our car wing mirrors (or worse) have been clipped by these careless drivers.

Our problems have not been made any easier by the setting up of a new bus lane along Edge Lane, which has slowed traffic down even more, for a very limited number of buses, and caused drivers to further use our side roads as a means of escape!

When the football season restarts again and thousands of cars head towards or away from Old Trafford it will make the situation much worse.

The bus lane decision on top of everything else was just plain stupidity.

A serious accident, a child being killed is the only way any traffic calming measures will be given to Cromwell Rd a disgraceful reason & unacceptable. The Neighbourhood Forum regarding Longford Park & Quaderant had an excellent turn-out, the Forum was rushed & not enough time allocated to each project. One great result, a new play are for the under 5's to be completed ahead of the school holidays. But why do the coucil let such issues like Longford Park get to crisis point? We deserve better....

Trafford Council continue to neglect Cromwell Rd & the desperate need for traffic calming measures. There are two entrances to Longford park one of which is unmarked making this entrance dangerous to pedestrians especially young children. The speed at which motorists travel is cause for deep concern, the road is both narrow & has parked cars on both sides.A show of support from residents will be highly effective i'm sure, one way of doing this is to attend the neighbourhood forum scheduled for tuesday 10 June at Trafford Town Hall.A huge Thank you to the Metro for it's commitment to such issues.
