I wish civil servant a long, happy life

25/ 4/2008

THIS is my first attempt at writing a letter to a newspaper, but having read the letter headed ‘OAPs should not complain’(Metro, April 18), I felt I had to put pen to paper.

I was quite amused at the letter, because I thought the young adult in question seems convinced that us OAPs landed on this earth as ready made ‘complaining OAPs’, a different species altogether.

But he or she can be assured that we went through the same transitions as the young writer, eg. childhood, adulthood, and finally the wonderful state of complaining OAP. I myself am a 75-year-old non-complaining OAP. I use my swimming baths regularly and I don’t object to paying the extra 50p.

I wish this young adult a long and happy life… and hope that is they get to my age they don’t turn into a complaining OAP. A dip in Dunham Massey sounds quite inviting.
