KINGSWAY Park in the summer of 2007

Kingsway Park will be in full bloom soon
11/ 4/2008
IN HIS letter, ‘Park looks like a battlefield’ (March 14), Harry Wild suggests that recent work at Kingsway Park in Davyhulme has not produced a ‘field of dreams’ within the first year and has therefore been a failure.
The letter does not mention the beautiful avenue of trees that has been planted along the northern boundary or the improvements the trees alongside the footpaths have made.
The letter states the wild poppy meadow has ‘given up the ghost’. Poppies favour infertile soil, hence the reason they are associated with land that has been degraded by war, and have since become a symbol of peace.
As the poppies are annual flowers they do not produce colour in the winter. The poppies will return every year, producing a fabulous display of colour.
The work is still in its infancy but in a few years’ time the new trees and wild flowers will really make a positive impact.
There are other projects for Kingsway Park in the future. Visit the Friends of Kingsway Park’s website at www.fokp.net or e-mail on fokp@hotmail.co.uk.
