Parking fees put people off shopping
14/12/2007
I KNOW this is an old chestnut but the parking in Urmston is getting out of control.
On Saturday, December 8, I was walking my dogs along Higher Road when a older lady was putting her shopping away in her car, which was parked outside Somerfield Store, when she noticed a parking ticket.
She said she had only been away for five minutes – a statement supported by her ticket. You could see she was having difficulty carrying her shopping. As a resident of Urmston I feel we are being victimised as motorists. We have lost four large car parks and inherited treble the number of wardens, who must be skulking in doorways or parked in a grey people carrier. Double yellow lines in Atkinson Road cross the driveway of a car sales lot (because that’s where I saw them at 12noon, writing out tickets on the same day ) ready to pounce without any consideration for the elderly.
My family, who all live in Urmston, have had no option but to shop elsewhere. Like a lot of other residents, it may take a lot of soul searching to tempt us back after such an utter debacle by the council and the developments people.
