A MAN who married his "soulmate" five weeks ago has lost his battle with cancer.
Christopher Jones, 49, of Duke Street, Oswaldtwistle, died in the East Lancashire Hospice after a five-month struggle against lung cancer.
The bus driver was diagnosed in April and underwent three rounds of intensive chemotherapy and cancer drugs to fight the disease – but the treatment did not work.
He and his wife June, who he met three years ago via the Internet, got engaged over two years ago and planned to wed this November. But doctors advised them to marry sooner and the couple wed at Holy Trinity Church in Oswaldtwistle at the end of August.
June said: "The surgeon said we should bring the date forward before Chris got too poorly.
"It was a shock to be given such a short amount of time. The doctors never said how long he had and we didn’t want to know. We just wanted to enjoy the time we had together.
"Chris was always so positive and would not let the cancer beat him. He fought it right to the end."
Chris was well known in the Oswaldtwistle area and loved to sing karaoke. He was taken into the hospice 10 days before his death and was given radiotherapy to try and shrink a secondary tumour in his throat, but it was too much for him.
June added: "I keep trying to remember all the good times. We have never been apart since we got together. We did everything together; he was my soulmate.
"I didn’t expect to organise his funeral so soon after we got married. I expected more time with him.
"I could never have got through this without the help of the hospice. The staff were wonderful."
Mr Jones, who had worked for Blackburn Transport for two-and-a-half years, was the son of Ronald and the late Florence. He leaves children Chris, Sarah, Dean and Darren, and siblings Val, Paul, Anthony, Mark, Carmen and Julie. He was also a brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and good friend to many.
He enjoyed karaoke, camping and walking his dogs.
He will be cremated at Accrington on Tuesday 7 October following a service at Holy Trinity Church, Oswaldtwistle, conducted by the Rev John Tranter. Donation are welcome for the East Lancashire Hospice.
Arrangements: Oswaldtwistle Funeral Service.
