HEAD porter at Rossendale General Hospital until his retirement Mr John Ainsworth Heath, of the Laurels Nursing Home, Bacup, died peacefully at home, aged 84.
Mr Heath was born in Peckham, London, and moved to Stacksteads during the war years. Aged 18 he joined the Royal Navy as a gunner and served four years.
He then worked at Kearns Dye Works, Cowpe, for many years before working at the hospital.
He was involved with St John Ambulance and enoyed dancing, caravanning, fishing and holidays.
Husband of the late Joan, he leaves his stepdaughters May and Ann, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
His funeral was on Tuesday 30 September when the Rev Colin Barnes led a service and cremation at Burnley. Family flowers only with donations to Alzheimers Society c/o funeral director: Sharon Aspinall for Ashworth and Baker Funeral Service, Rawtenstall.
