15 pints - but no fun

Richard Butt
14/ 3/2008

A CONFESSION: I bought 15 pints in one day. But I wasn’t binge drinking.

I needed a visual cue for my story about Jonathan Marchant, a Chorlton man who was 5.37 times over the drink-driving limit when caught behind the wheel of his car.

He wasn’t jailed – to the anger of some road safety groups.

Fifteen pints is a heck of a lot of lager. It’s also a lot of money. Forty-five quid, to be precise.

Another confession: After we filmed the story, the assistant manager of the Old Nag’s Head in the city centre poured it down the drain while I went back to Channel M Towers to edit it.

What a waste. At least Channel M isn’t financed by the licence fee!
